Does Lumiere work on any skincare product?
Lumiere reads the printed ingredient list, so it works on any product that has one — cleansers, serums, moisturisers, sunscreens, masks, body care, and products from brands too small to appear in a barcode database. If you don't have the bottle in front of you, search the product by name instead and you'll get the same personalised analysis.
How is the 1–100 match score calculated?
The score weighs each ingredient against the skin profile you set up — your skin type, your concerns, and anything you've flagged as a sensitivity. It accounts for where an ingredient sits in the list (which indicates roughly how much of it is in the formula), known interactions between actives, and irritation risk. Tap any ingredient to see exactly how it moved your score.
Is Lumiere free?
The app is free to download and set up. A subscription unlocks unlimited scans, full personalised analysis and all premium features, available weekly, monthly, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. You can manage or cancel a subscription any time from your Apple ID settings.
Does it replace a dermatologist?
No, and it isn't meant to. Lumiere gives you cosmetic-ingredient information and compatibility guidance so you can make better-informed choices about products. It does not diagnose or treat skin conditions. For persistent acne, suspected rosacea, eczema, any changing mole, or a reaction that isn't settling, see a dermatologist.
Which iPhone do I need?
Lumiere is an iPhone app available on the App Store. Any reasonably recent iPhone with a working rear camera will scan ingredient lists comfortably — the App Store listing shows the exact iOS version requirement.
What happens to my progress photos?
They stay part of your private journal. Lumiere does not sell your data to third-party cosmetic manufacturers, and your scans and photos are not shared with brands. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
Can it tell me when my sunscreen expires?
Yes — that's what the shelf-life tracker is for. Log the date you opened a product and Lumiere counts down its period-after-opening window, then warns you before it lapses. Does it handle ingredient lists in other languages?
Ingredient lists are printed using INCI names, which are a standardised international nomenclature — "Aqua", "Tocopherol", "Butyrospermum Parkii Butter" are the same on a bottle bought anywhere. That's what Lumiere reads, so packaging language isn't usually a barrier.
